The launch of IGA’s report ‘History Undone. Russia’s Historical Disinformation, Bulgaria’s Memory Politics and Lessons for Dealing with the Past from Central and Eastern Europe’ took place on 19 September 2023 at Grand Hotel Sofia.
Dr. Rumena Filipova presented the key findings of the study and Professor Evelina Kelbetcheva of AUBG focused on the continuing hold of communist-era nostalgia and its impact on the youngest generations. The discussion that followed with representatives of the diplomatic corps, Bulgarian government officials, journalists and academics united around the importance of political leadership as the way forward for forging a resilient memory politics in the country. Тhe need to foster an integrated approach that coalesces around changes in the educational material, establishing a memory institute and museum and countering disinformation also stood out.
