Dr Rumena Filipova participated as a speaker at the Research Security and Due Diligence in Academia workshop, held in Sofia on 29–30 June and organised by Sandia National Laboratories, with the support of the Office of Cooperative Threat Reduction (CTR) at the U.S. Department of State.
The two-day workshop brought together Bulgarian and international experts to discuss emerging challenges to research security, including foreign interference, intellectual property protection, due diligence in international research partnerships, and risk management in academia.
Dr Filipova delivered a presentation on foreign influence in Bulgarian education, examining patterns of foreign influence, threats to academic research posed by Russia and China, vulnerabilities within higher education, and the development of national and European frameworks for safeguarding academic institutions.
As research security becomes an increasingly important component of national resilience and international scientific cooperation, IGA remains committed to supporting efforts to strengthen research security, academic integrity, and institutional resilience in Bulgaria and across Europe.
