Report: Beyond the Dumpling Alliance

IGA has contributed to the new study of the Central European Institute of Asian Studies, which provides a comparative analysis of relations between Taiwan and 12 Central and East European countries. Each country-level chapter includes an overview of the key Taiwan-related developments across the political, economic and societal domain. Moreover, the analysis shows how different countries’ approaches to Taiwan fit within their approaches to China.

The chapter on Bulgarian-Taiwanese interactions points to the limited economic and diplomatic engagement; little – if any, Bulgarian political awareness of Taiwan Strait dynamics; and Sofia’s strict adherence to the One-China principle, which places Bulgaria increasingly at odds with the Euro-Atlantic community.
