Dr. Rumena Filipova took part in the international conference organized by REDEM: Reconstructing Democracy in Times of Crisis: A Voter-Centred Perspective, a Horizon 2020 project.
Discussions were centered on a wide range of fundamental questions underpinning the challenges and development of democracy, including the right to stand and political competition; forging compromise; voting arrangements; the role of experts; the meaning of elections and whether they are a sufficient measure for the robustness of democracy.
IGA’s chairperson participated in a panel together with Professor Annabelle Lever (Sciences Po); Professor Sergei Guriev (Provost of Sciences Po); Professor Alberto Alemanno (Jean Monnet Professor of European Union Law at HEC Paris); Professor Lex Paulson (Executive Director of the UM6P School of Collective Intelligence). The panel discussed the economic underpinnings of democratization, lobbying practices as enhancing or, conversely, undermining democracy, the challenges to the development of democracy in Central and Eastern Europe.
