IGA is launching its paper series “Ukraine Insider”, where international experts on Ukraine analyze the crucial political-historical, media, and economic developments taking place in the country since the start of the Kremlin’s invasion. The series aims to better acquaint the Bulgarian and international audience with trends on the ground and counter Russian disinformation’s misrepresentations and falsifications about Ukraine by featuring cutting-edge expertise.
In the first paper, historian Professor Andrii Portnov traces the historically distorted roots of Vladimir Putin’s thinking on Ukraine and explains the historical trajectory of the development of Ukrainian statehood and nationhood. The analysis demonstrates that a contrived reading of history on the part of the Kremlin, based on illusions and misapprehension, leads to detrimental consequences with respect to present-day policies.
