IGA participated in an international project, organized by the Central European Institute of Asian Studies (CEIAS), mapping the academic interactions between universities in Central and Eastern Europe and their Chinese counterparts. A pioneering China-Europe Academic Engagement Tracker has been produced, which provides a comprehensive record of how European academic institutions engage with China, helps understand the nature and volume of these interactions, and aims to improve their transparency.
As regards the findings on Bulgaria, there has been a growing trend towards greater engagement with China through joint research and publications, academic and student exchanges. Confucius Institutes and Huawei are increasingly enmeshed in the Bulgarian educational system. Transparency and security screening have to be improved. You can read the article on Bulgaria here.
